Even though hints of spring weather are starting to come around, there's still a chill in the air, so I thought we would share a spiced tea recipe called karak tea. This rich, spiced tea has its roots in the Gulf region and is a cousin to the Indian spiced chai. Whether you’re looking for a cozy morning pick-me-up or a soothing evening treat, karak tea is a simple yet indulgent drink that’s easy to make at home.
Recipe:
3 cups water
3 black tea bags (I like using Cardamom Black Tea by Ahmad Tea)
1 cup of evaporated milk
1 Tablespoon to 1.5 Tablespoons of sugar
6 Cardamom pods
A few Cloves
3-4 thickly sliced ginger
A Cinnamon stick
In a saucepan, add the sugar, water, and spices. Let it come to a boil and boil for 5 minutes. Add the tea. Reduce heat and let the tea simmer for 10 minutes. Add the evaporated milk and let it heat up for a minute or two. Strain the tea and serve in your favourite cups.
With its aromatic spices and velvety texture, karak tea is perfect for sharing with friends or savoring in a quiet moment of relaxation. Whether you enjoy it as a daily ritual or an occasional indulgence, making karak tea at home allows you to customize it to your taste and enjoy its comforting warmth whenever you please. It's become one of my favourite drinks!
